Use the part #’s just as they appear in the catalog. For a CXA Tool Post use part # CXA. For a #1 holder for an AXA Tool Post use part # AXA-1. The same is true for spare parts. The part # to order a 1-R chipbreaker is 1-R.

Our tool post range in size from MXA (the smallest)–>MA–>AXA–>BXA–>CXA–>CA–>DA–>EA (the largest). When ordering attachments, please be sure to stay within the post series as they are not interchangeable.
The TNMS inserts are for finishing, the TNMP are for medium cutting and the TNMS are for rough cutting.

Picking the best blade grade to fit your application:

  • 767- A strong steel cutting grade ideal for cut-off and grooving applications; coated with Titanium Nitride (gold) for additional wear properties
  • A2- Our best fine-grain uncoated grade for cast iron, nonferrous metals and high temperature alloys
  • A6- A strong steel cutting grade; uncoated for low to medium speed operations

Additionally, if there is a C2 or C7 Option: C2 is comparable to an A2 and C7 is comparable to an A6.

The parts ending in “-HA” include: 1 (one) hexnut, 1 (one) threaded stud, 1 (one) key washer and 1 (one) knurling nut. Pieces are not sold separately.
The required tool post size is a function of the swing of the lathe and the center height dimension. The center height is the distance from the top of the compound to the center line of the spindle. There is a chart in the middle of the Aloris catalog with tool post recommendations for most common makes and models. If you have any questions call us and we will recommend the proper tool post for your lathe.
This would generally be referring to the size of square shank tooling being used. The size of the tool post would be determined by the slot size of the #1 turning & facing holder as specified by the “B” dimension on page 4 and 5 of the catalog. The tool post still must meet the center height requirements.
To properly cut material on a lathe the tool must be at the center-line of the work piece. If the tool post is too big for the machine the tool will not be able to get down far enough to reach the center-line of the work piece. If the tool post is too small the tools will not be able to reach high enough to get to the center-line.
Each holder has a height adjustment assembly for setting the tool to center-line. This is mounted in the center of the holder and is comprised of a threaded stud, a knurled nut, a hex nut and a keyed washer. The knurled nut is adjusted till the tool is on center-line, and then locked into place with the hex nut.
On most makes and models of lathes the Tool post is attached to the compound by the t-nut that fits in the t-slot of the compound, and is tightened down by the flange nut on the top of the post. For those machines without a t-slot in the compound alternative mounting methods are available.
No, the holders and the tool post must be of the same series. This is due to a difference in the dimensions of the dovetail. As the size off the tool post and holders increases the size of the dovetail increases as well.
Yes, with the exception of KDK, which uses an entirely different system, other brands of quick change tooling are interchangeable providing they are of the same series. Aloris was the originator of the Quick Change Tool Post system and set the standard for tool post and dovetail sizes. As the other brands were imitations of the Aloris system they duplicated the sizes and fits found on Aloris tooling. Of course, as we do not manufacture their products we cannot guarantee they will work, or speak for the quality of their products.
Our Aloris products are proudly made in the USA using steel from American mills.
